It seems like it was just the other day that local rockers STATE OF SHOCK were up and comers winning the 2004 CFOX SEEDS contest and here they are in 2008 riding high on their second album Life, Love & Lies released last summer. The first single ‘Money Honey’ became one of the great songs of the summer. The song surpassed platinum status and was a top ten single in multiple formats, earning the boys a trip to The Juno Awards as nominee for Best New Group, and the song itself won numerous other awards including Favourite Single at the 2008 Canadian Independent Music Awards. It was indeed the favourite song of the summer for many of us.

The second single, “Hearts that Bleed” is already a hit and the third “Too Pretty” is on the way with a video in progress. With Canada firmly in the grasp, STATE OF SHOCK is now looking to conquer the rest of the world and recently signed with Cory Brennan of New York-based Sanctuary Artist Management as the first step towards moving into the global arena. Of course, there is no such thing as overnight success as founders Johnny Philippon (drums) and Jesse Wainwright (guitars) will tell you. For them it has been eight years of hard work, moving from a heavy rock band into a more rounded melodic sound with huge commercial appeal, but commercial without compromising integrity. Now they are riding the wave. They are the party.

Vancouver-based ECONOLINE CRUSH, fronted by Trevor Hurst – the boy from Virden, Manitoba, has made quite a name in Canada with albums such as PURGE (1994) and AFFLICTION (1996). Their greatest success turned out to be THE DEVIL YOU KNOW (1997). They've enjoyed major chart success and have opened Canadian and European tours for the likes of KISS, Die Krupps, and The Tea Party. Taking their name from French novelist Euxebe Auxtry's book Jeu de Fountaine (in which ‘Econoline Crush’ was a drug that gives the hopeless a sense of optimism), they mix alternative guitar-rock with electronic music. The latest ECONOLINE CRUSH album, called IGNITE, was just released this January in the middle of their Canada-wide tour with Three Days Grace and Seether.
