Catch one of the great bands that broke with The Beatles in the original ‘British Invasion’ of the sixties, and then ushered in the psychedelic generation and the grand golden era of seventies rock and roll. The LIVE NIGHTS music series and ROCK 101’s Electric Lunch presents THE ZOMBIES in concert on Friday, July 25th in The Theatre at the Cascades Casino in Langley. Advance tickets are available for $40.00 (plus GST) from Casino Guest Services.
In 2006 THE ZOMBIES toured for the first time over thirty years and played to rave reviews from all the critics at their sell-out show last year in Vancouver. Formed in 1961 in St. Albans, England and led by Rod Argent on piano and Colin Blunstone on vocals, THE ZOMBIES scored major hits in North America in the mid-1960s with "She's Not There" and "Tell Her No” and did some very successful tours. They were a favourite of music critics for their complex musical arrangements and vocal harmonies but they had a hard time getting airplay in their native UK. That and a basic lack of support from their record label led to the disbanding of the group before the release of their last album.
“Time of the Season” is a song that epitomizes classic rock, golden oldies and electric lunches and all kinds of clichés. It is one of the great singles of the late sixties but the album Odessey and Oracle(1968) was so far ahead of its time that THE ZOMBIES had disbanded and had moved on to other successful musical careers by the time the album finally broke in the US. They never even toured their greatest hit! Odessey and Oracle is now considered one of the best albums of its time and is ranked number eighty in The Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘500 all time best albums.’
Rod Argent formed a new group ARGENT with guitarist/songwriter Russ Ballard and scored top twenty hits in both the US and UK with songs like “God Gave Rock 'n Roll To You” and “It's Only Money”. Their track “Hold Your Head Up” is undeniably one the great FM Rock anthems of the seventies, and is still a staple of classic rock stations. Colin Blunstone’s breathy vocal style was a big factor in THE ZOMBIES success and he had solo hits in the seventies with songs like "Say You Don't Mind” (written by Denny Lane of Wings fame), "I Don't Believe in Miracles" and "Caroline Goodbye."
